Continuing on a recent theme of photographing more local people and cultures, here is Martin Hopper and Eckett Breckon who drift net for Salmon off Whitby on a daily basis off the coast of Whitby.

The guys usually fish the area around Mow Wyke where the net is set close to shore and allowed to drift out with the tide. The boat – “Courage” drifts alongside the net keeping it free from snagging etc. The guys keep a close eye on the net whilst it drifts to protect their catch from seals who will steal the fish and destroy the nets in the process.

Todays Haul was 79 fish which consisted of roughly 50 large salmon and 30 sea trout. If your in a local restaurant in the coming days and Salmon is on the menu, it is highly likely you will be eating fresh Whitby Fish caught by Eckett and Martin.
