Description

A very popular image that sold well when it was first published to the website in February 2016. The image shows the winter swells breaking through the under deck of The West Pier Extensions in Whitby.

The outer piers at Whitby are know to the locals as “the Extensions” as they were added to the already existing inner piers in 1913, “Extending” the piers further into the north sea and affording more protection to the inner harbour at Whitby.

Whilst the seas are rough at Whitby, the swell from outside the piers often runs through the under-deck and into Whitby harbour on the inside. This effect has been captured perfectly at dusk in this image which is one of my very best selling photographs to date.
