Its been a couple of years since we had snow in the winter. Thursday saw the first snows of 2017 so I headed up onto the moors armed with the camera.

There was no snow at all in Whitby, but as soon as you got half way up Skelder bank heading towards Teesside you drove into the white stuff.

I wasnt sure where to go but decided to start at the far end of The Esk Valley and work back to Whitby. Well at least that was the plan.

The reality was that I got well and truly stuck at Danby. Knowing the weather would improve through the day I parked up, got wrapped up, and headed off on foot around Danby.

The snow was falling quite heavy, making it difficult to actually get any nice photographs, However I did manage a few I was quite happy with.

By Mid afternoon it had stopped snowing, and despite the visible absence of a snow plough or gritter, a lovely lady who lives in the village had gritted the hill out the the village on her own with nothing more than a shovel.

Finally back on the main road which was clear I headed for home. But at Lealholm turn off I couldnt resist the urge to drop back into the valley bottom for more photographs. That turned out to be another mistake and I ended up stuck for several more hours at Stonegate before a Gentleman arrived and towed me back up the hill. This time I headed straight for home and one of Helens wonderful sausage casseroles,
