This morning I had a phone call from Helen who was en route to pick her car up from Whitby Tyre And Exhaust Centre. Helen had rung to say protestors were active at The Whitby depot of Sky Scaffolding.
As usual I always like to get as many pictures as possible of events happening locally. I grabbed the camera bag and headed across town to the industrial estate.
I was met by a scenes of a huge police presence for 1 man sat on top of a lorry and 2 peaceful female supporters watching on. When I saw all the police I had thought it must be something far more serious than a very peaceful protest.
I grabbed a few photographs and chatted with the female supporters of the protest. A lovely young lady by the name of Michelle explained what they were doing and why. I was invited to visit their camp in Kirby-Misperton at a later date, an invitation I fully intend to keep.
We chatted briefly about fracking and its many unknown quantities. I explained my concern as a father of 4 children, one not yet a year old, that we could be leaving a legacy of disaster for the next generation.
I told the ladies that I fear we leave a poisoned Yorkshire for our kids too inherit. I also explained I was shocked at a Whitby company taking on this type of work given the bad press it could bring them.
I also noted that the business owners and many of their employees have young children too, who could all be seriously effected by Fracking.
Im pretty sure there is enough construction work locally for them not to have to get involved in something so controversial and potentially catastrophic for their own kids.
Other than that, not much to report really. One man on a Lorry, 2 quiet female supporters and half the regions police force looking on.
